Production of ten two-hour programs exploring the traveler as an iconic image in American narrative, songs, and stories.

A special series of American Routes programs entitled, "Routes to Home: Words and Music from Migrants, Exiles, Travellers, and Wanderers." Building on prior NEH-supported programming and drawing on the experiences and insights of the past 18 months, American Routes will produce ten two-hour programs focused on the theme of travel and the traveller as a culture-bearer and iconic image in American narratives, songs and stories. NEH support will make possible the inclusion of enhanced humanities content in these programs and permit American Routes to recruit additional scholars new to the program with expertise in content and/or the cultural aspects of travel and mobility as historical and contemporary cultural conditions of life.
