The expansion of a touring conference that
explores the unique cultural landscapes and historic destinations of the state
of Montana.
The Path Less Traveled: Montana Preservation Road Show is an award-winning, rural touring conference that explores Montana’s cultural landscapes and celebrates hidden rural heritage. Each Road Show tours regional Montana landscapes in the company of scholars and site interpreters, an on-site sampler that takes people to well-preserved rural heritage properties that tell the rich story of Montana. In addition to specific tours, there are community programs including local music and performances, heritage tourism, oral history, literary discussions, and special events with well-known speakers. Through each Road Show, Montana Preservation Alliance (MPA) expands our outreach network to small communities and their capacity to engage more directly with their past through the humanities.National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) funds will help us to: conduct Road Show outreach in two new communities, create a webguide and build capacity to make this innovative form of outreach permanent.
