Women, War & Peace: The Balkans is a one-hour documentary about the Balkans' explosion into civil war in the 1990s, the reports of mass rapes used as a tactic of war, and the international court established to end the impunity. The film explores the jurisprudential precedents regarding war crimes against women set by the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia. In particular, it focuses on the story of the municipality of Foca in eastern Bosnia. The film presents the women who bravely sought justice at the Foca trial, which became the first trial in history focused on wartime crimes of sexual violence. The Balkans is part of a five-part documentary series, Women, War & Peace, which will air on public television in 2011 as a special presentation of WIDE ANGLE. |
